The Dodge Charger will be built on the same future platform as the upcoming Dodge Challenger.
The Giorgio platform underpins the new Alfa Romeo Giulia, which is due to go on sale in North America by the end of the year.
On the company's third-quarter conference call with analysts late last month, FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne said he was "encouraged by the versatility of the architecture that was planned at the time in which the Giulia was launched. I think it's proved out to be all and more than we expected, and I think its utilization across a wide range of applications within the group is probably the most beneficial thing we've done from a technical development here in a long time."
The Giorgio platform would be stretched and likely widened for use by Dodge in North America for a next-generation Charger and Challenger. It is also rigid enough to allow FCA to potentially return to the convertible market for the first time since it canceled the Chrysler 200 Convertible in 2014.
At the most recent FCA dealer's show in Las Vegas in August 2015, FCA showed a potential future convertible Dodge that it called the Barracuda -- a name borrowed from Plymouth's muscle car past.

Dodge Challenger and Charger replacements might not come until 2021
Fiat Chrysler will refresh and stick with its stable of large cars until at least 2020, two sources told Automotive News.
The Dodge Challenger coupe and Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300 sedans won't be redesigned onto the automaker's new Giorgio platform until the 2021 model year, when FCA is likely to discontinue production of one of the large sedans, according to one internal FCA source and one at an FCA supplier.
Information from those sources confirms vague details released in a contract highlighter sent to union members that explained the company's new four-year labor contract with the Canadian auto workers union Unifor.
The agreement, ratified by Unifor members last month, calls for FCA to invest $325 million Canadian ($242 million U.S.) in the Brampton, Ontario, plant to rebuild its antiquated paint shop. Construction is to begin in the summer of 2017, according to the contract highlighter from union President Jerry Dias.

BMW Presents First Ever M-Badged 7 Series
With BMW considering an M7 to serve as its performance division’s flagship sedan, and the Middle East acting as the world’s third largest market for the 7 Series, you shouldn’t be too surprised to see the German carmaker creating a special-edition M-badged 760i for Saudi Arabia.Unveiled at a fashion expo, the 760Li V12 M Bi-Turbo is the first ever 7 Series to be adorned with M badges. Naturally, the limited-edition model is based on the quickest 7 Series in stable.
The 760Li boasts a 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12 good for 536 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque, and a 0-62 mph time of 4.6 seconds. The car is being offered exclusively through Saudi dealership Mohamed Yousef Naghi Motors, featuring options often reserved for M car buyers. These include eight M-exclusive colors, such as Monte Carlo Blue, Imola Red and Silverstone II, as well as lightweight 20-inch alloys and the M Sport package finished in shadowline dark instead of the usual chrome trim. A full Nappa leather interior with contrast stitching, comes with piano black and ceramic trim, along with M logos to match the exterior M badges.

The Cars That Carry The Hands Of The Future
These are the cars that have the potential for greatness. New cars are launched every year, but only a few truly shake up their respective segments. These are the cars that force competing automakers back to the drawing boards at a frantic pace. 2013 was definitely a year full of some great reveals and, as usual, there were a few major standouts. So we created a list, debated hours upon hours, and arm wrestled over which five newly launched cars were the biggest game changers this past year. In no specific order, these cars have the potential for greatness. After way too many false starts, Alfa Romeo finally unveiled its 4C coupe this past year. The wait was well worth it. Composed of enough carbon fiber to make even Horacio Pagani blush, the 4C is a two-seat, mid-engined sports car in the purest sense. Some say it’s a Porsche Cayman fighter, while others argue it’s in a class all its own. Whatever the case turns out to be, the 4C is a reminder to any competing automaker that Alfa Romeo has never forgotten how to build and engineer greatness.
And you thought we’d leave these two out of any top five list. The all-new BMW M3 and M4 are set to have their official live debut at Detroit next month, but their dirty secrets have already been fully revealed. Instead of E90/E92 predecessor’s naturally aspirated V8, the pair are powered by a turbocharged inline-six. Call it a big experiment as to whether turbocharging can serve as a permanent and worthy replacement for displacement. If all goes well, and it likely will, expect to see turbocharging as the primary source of extra power in both regular and high-performance cars.
After more than a decade-long absence, the Cherokee name returns to the Jeep lineup. Only this time it’s not a pure SUV, but rather a crossover. Brand purists aren’t at all thrilled, but Jeep needs for the new Cherokee to have mass appeal in a highly competitive segment. Unlike many of its direct competitors, the Cherokee also has a nine-speed gearbox and several different configurations to fit any lifestyle. Early reviews of the Trail Rated Trailhawk trim have been excellent, proving that Jeep may have just cracked the secret on how to build a CUV with SUV off-road abilities.
Who would have ever thought that a front-wheel-drive Mercedes sedan would fly off dealer showrooms at a high rate? That’s exactly what’s happening with the new CLA, a four-door coupe that’s not only affordable, but also packs plenty of luxury and performance abilities. It has a starting price of around $29k, and for those looking to upgrade from a VW GTI into something a little more adult-like, the CLA has been their answer. BMW has officially been put on notice.
The previous-gen Cadillac CTS was an incredible car, proving that America could build a luxury sport sedan capable of taking on Europe’s finest. And with the launch of the new CTS, critics and consumers alike have spoken: this car is better than its predecessor and just as good as its foreign rivals, if not better. Thanks to an optional twin-turbo V6 in the Vsport trim, the new CTS has officially verified that Cadillac is now playing with the big boys from Germany.

FERRARI F12 BERLINETTA ANNIHILATES THE AUTOBAHN
Thanks to Chris Harris, we all know how fast the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta is around the track. For most drivers, that’s the only place the V12-powered Fezza can stretch its legs. But if you live near the Autobahn, this is where you should spend as much time as possible. This POV video comes courtesy of thegermansupercars, who managed to ride shotgun in a white F12 as the driver took the liberty of mashing the gas pedal at every opportunity.
Thanks to the passenger information readout, he had a good eye on the speed, which frequently creeps over the 300 km/h (187 mph) mark.

Lamborghini Unveils Veneno Roadster
Only nine will be made, priced at 3.3 million Euros a piece. Ever since Lamborghini unveiled the limited edition Veneno supercar at the Geneva Motor Show, speculation has been rife over whether a roadster variant would ever emerge from the gates of Sant’ Agata. Here it is. Wearing the same otherworldly carbon-fiber body, the Veneno Roadster comes with no roof – literally. The permanent roadster, says Lamborghini “guarantees an intense driving experience.” Having the 740-hp 6.5-liter V12 blaring away within ear shot of driver and passenger without a roof to dull the sound probably helps with that. -

Power is permanently sent to all four wheels via an automatic transmission, with 0-62 mph timed at 2.9 seconds and top speed set at 220 mph. Like its closed-top counterpart, the Veneno Roadster sports a monocoque and body crafted from Lamborghini’s carbon-reinforced polymers, keeping weight down to just 1,490 kg. Features such as the oversized diffuser, central fin, adjustable rear wing, and six wedge-shaped openings on the engine cover that all work to keep the car planted to the road also adorn the supercar cabrio. With nine being planned, the Lamborghini Veneno is slightly less exclusive than the coupe (of which three were made). The ‘Rosso Veneno” color seen here is unique to the roadster but buyers can have it in any color they want. All they need is the $4.5 million required to complete the transaction.

Girl's Pink Lamborghini Dream Comes True
This is one of the greatest acts of kindness ever. Emilia is a young girl who is sadly very ill. But she also loves Lamborghinis, specifically pink ones. Her greatest wish is to ride in one. And thanks to Rays of Sunshine and Top Gear host Richard Hammond, Emilia got her wish. A white Aventador was repainted pink specifically (and temporarily) for the occasion in which Hammond drove to young Emilia’s home to pick her up. The two went on a little cruise around town before heading to an airfield for a little high-speed action.
Hammond took the Aventador to an airstrip where he hit the gas and put a much-needed smile on the sick child's face. The good people at HR Owen did their part by painting the Lambo pink specifically for the occasion. Emilia was delighted to learn it was the only pink Aventador in the world, and it was all for her to enjoy. She even had a pink racing suit to wear for the day. Afterwards, Emilia's mother thanked Rays of Sunshine and everyone else involved for making the day happen. "It's not until something awful happens that you get to find out how kind people can be," she gratefully stated.
